When you deselect "Scroll menu items" in the configuration for the Home plugin the semitransparency effect is not disabled. The result is that the items at the top and bottom of the home menu always appear semitransparent even when they are selected.

Disable the scrolling menu items option in the Home plugin.
Then Start MediaPortal.
