Description
If MediaPortal is running when entering hibernate, MyTV is not working after resume (no FTA no payTV channel is working).
Tested with 2 PCs.
1. with Skystar2 with WinXP SP2
2. with floppydtvdvb-s with WinXP MCE2005 RU2
My testresults should prove that the initial conclusions of the issue being caused by the TV Card drivers is incorrect.
So far this issue has been reproduced and reported with TV Cards (DVB and analog) from Hauppauge, Digital Everywhere, Twinhan and Technisat.
It is regardless how you let the PC hibernate (MP GUI, powerscheduler plugin, remote) and if the first channel that is viewed when you enter MyTV is a FTA or payTV channel.
h4. Steps to Reproduce
How the issue can be reproduced:
1.Start MediaPortal
2.enter hiberanate (doesnt matter how)
3.resume from hibernate
4.MyTV is not working
error.log shows D3DERR_DEVICELOST
see FloppyDTV.zip and Skystar2.zip for full logs
h4. Additional Information
Why this is not caused by the driver(s) of the TV Card(s):
To prove that this is not caused by the drivers (of 4 different companies) i have used PVR-Scheduler. www.pvr-scheduler.de
The PVR-Scheduler runs as windows service in the background and adds a Plugin to MediaPortal that allowes the PVR-Scheduler to fetch scheduled recording and the status of MP (i.e. viewing Video, on homescreen). It is managing the hibernate and resume procedure.
Configuration:
x MediaPortal powerscheduler plugin is not active
x PVR Scheduler: is closing MediaPortal BEFOR entering hibernate !!!IMPORTANT!!!
x PVR Scheduler: is starting MediaPortal after resume from hibernate
x PVR Scheduler: shutdown (hibernate) if MP on homescreen
x PVR Scheduler: shutdown (hibernate) after recording
Test Scenario:
Scheduled 30 recordings for both PCs, everytime with the need to resume from hibernate befor recording and entering hibernate after recording.
1.start PC
2.PVR-Scheduler starts MediaPortal
3.add 30 recordings with TVGuide
4.go to homescreen
5.after idle time PVR-Scheduler closes MediaPortal
6.PVR-Scheduler starts hibernate
7.PVR-Scheduler resumes from hibernate for first scheduled recording
8.PVR-Scheduler starts MediaPortal
9.MediaPortal starts recording
10.MediaPortal finished recording
11.PVR-Scheduler closes MediaPortal
12.PVR-Scheduler starts hibernate
13.PVR-Scheduler resumes from hibernate for next recording
All 30 scheduled recordings were done wihtout a problem. MyTV is ALWAYS working after resume from hibernate.
Conclusion:
MyTV is not working after resume from hibernate IF MediaPortal is running when entering hibernate. Regardless how hibernation is initiated and which channel is viewed when entering MyTV.
MyTV is ALWAYS working after resume from hibernate IF MediaPortal is NOT runing when PC is entering hibernate.
If this would be caused by a driver bug its uncommon in my opionion that 4 different companys are suffering of the same bug.
Koschel was also able to use Hauppauge Nova-s with Windows MediaCenter 2005 RU2 and with TVCentral without any TV issues after countless resumes from hibernate. This also refutes the theory that this issue is caused by a driver bug.
