Currently a change to IDialog in 1.3.0Alpha could break plugin compatibility.

One suggestion to avoid this is as follows:

"Yes, we could create IDialogbox2 that inherits IDialogbox. Then instead of implementing IDialogbox we implement IDialogbox2. This will make everything compatible. In fact this is common practice in COM (look at D3D interfaces)."
